Meitheal

Meitheal

NAPD Region 6 has a proud tradition of facilitating an annual 'overnight' which usually takes place in late February or early March.  The event alternates between Clare and Kerry every second year to facilitate members from both counties.

The event aims to provide members with a short but effective 'breather' from the rigours of the daily responsibilities to focus on a well-being session (generally on the Thursday evening) and another topical subject which needs to be addressed in the near future (half day on Friday to lunch-time).

A very nice aspect of this overnight event involves both the NAPD Director and President being in attendance to meet members and discuss both on a social and education relevant basis.
This event has gone from strength to strength since it was first initiated by Region 6.

Between 45 and 50 Members attend each year, and it is always very beneficial for newly appointed Principals and Deputy Principals to attend.

A flavour of the topics that are covered is outlined below;

  • Meitheal 2013 was held in the Park Hotel in Killarney.  The topics covered were; Mindfulness (Dr. Fergus Heffernan) and School Self-Evaluation SSE (Gerry Killion).
  • Meitheal 2014 was held in the Old ground Hotel in Ennis.  The topics chosen for this event included a theme on mindfulness on the Thursday evening, and the new Anti-Bullying procedures which was delivered by Mr. Pat Courtney, formerly of PDST.
  • Meitheal 2015 returns to the Park Hotel in Killarney on Thursday, 26th February 2015.  Speakers include Ms. Jacintha Kitt, Clive Byrne and Ciaran Flynn (formerly of ACCS).  A limited number of exhibitors will also be in attendance.
